KAMPALA–IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura has fired commandant of the Professional Standards Unit of police (PSU), SCP Good Mwesigwa just a few weeks after his appointment.

Mwesigwa has been replaced with Assistant Commissioner of Police Okalany John William.

The appointment was communicated Wednesday to different units and takes immediate effect.

At the time of his sacking, Mwesigwa had been in the position for just three weeks following his appointment in December last year.

He was appointed to the commandant of PSU in December replacing embattled Joel Aguma, who is on remand in Makindye Military Prison on allegations of kidnapping Rwandan refugees.

Whereas the reason for the sacking of Mwesigwa’s predecessor is known, the reason behind Mwesigwa’s firing is still a mystery.

Some reports state that he was fired over illegal sale of guns and bullets to Tembo Steel company in Lugazi. The guns were sold under the guise of scrap.

Other reports claim he was fired after PSU officers arrested police officers at Kampala Metropolitan Police headquarters, who were investigating a city businessman suspected of conning Shs80m from a trader.
