Kasese Woman MP and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Winnie Kiiza, has narrowly escaped death after her car, Reg No UG 0251H was knocked by a truck UAY 069W that was ferrying sand from Lwera wetland.

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon at Kibukuta swamp between Nabusanke Trading Center and Buwama Town Council in Mpigi District on the Kampala – Masaka highway. MP Kiiza was heading to Masaka.

Eye witnesses said the truck driver lost control and Winnie Kizza’s vehicle.

Katonga regional traffic police commander, Ruth Kyobutungyi said only Francis Barigye, the truck driver, was injured in the accident while MP Kiiza’s car was slightly dented.

Barigye is now in police custody at Buwama Police Station and Ms Kiiza recorded statement before she proceeded with her journey.

“We have arrested him (truck driver) for reckless driving. He’s going to receive medical attention from the police clinic,” Ms Kyobutungyi said.
