Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) delegates have elected former Kumi county MP Patrick Amuriat Oboi as their party president.

According to preliminary results that this website has seen, Oboi won in five of the six polling stations, defeating Rtd Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu who has been at the helm of the party for five years since 2012. In the four polling stations whose results this website had seen by press time, Amuriat obtained 111, 107, 101, 107 against Muntu’s 70, 80, 76 and 77 votes respectively.

Speaking about Amuriat’s victory, Mubarak Munyagwa who dropped out of the race in favour of Oboi said: “FDC has spoken loud and clear. Some people thought money would influence delegates but they were wrong.”

Moses Byamugisha, one of the contestants, said the process was smooth and proper, adding that this was a victory for all the party members and the country.

Who is Patrick Amuriat Oboi
Amuriat was born in Kumi district and holds a Bachelors degree in Engineerig from Makerere University. He served as Kumi County MP from 2001 to 2006. While in Parliament, Amuriat served on the Committee of State Enterprises and Statutory Authorities and was also shadow minister for works and infrastructure.
