Police officer held over illegal dealing in charcoal

GULU: Police in Gulu district on Wednesday arrested its own over illegal dealing in charcoal.

The police officer only identified as Nicholas was caught red-handed at Omel parish in Paicho sub-county in a joint operation mounted by police and the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF).

Nicholas admitted to committing the offence and pleaded for mercy since he is still on probation.

He was found wearing police uniform and riding police motorbike UP 6761 as he escorted a lorry Fuso truck loaded with bags of charcoal.

Aswa region police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said Nicholas will be investigated and will be punished if found guilty.
