Two people died on the spot and another was injured in a bus accident at Kyanamira Trading Centre on the Kabale-Mbarara Highway, about four kilometres from Kabale town.

The deceased were identified as Avitas Akampurira and Wilbrod Barugahare, both residents of Bugandara Cell in Kyanamira Sub-county Kabale district while the injured person has been identified as Ruth Uwera, a Rwandan national and student of St Lawrence University, Kampala.

The Modern Coast Bus Company bus was heading to Kampala from Kigali, Rwanda.

Police say the accident occurred when the deceased who were travelling on a motorcycle randomly joined the road.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate says the bus swerved off the road as the bus driver tried without success to save the motorcyclists. The driver is currently on the run.

An eye witness who preferred anonymity said the passengers who were not hurt proceeded to Kampala while the injured person is receiving medical attention at Rugarama hospital.
