Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr Col Dr KizzaBesigye, has Wednesday morning been arraigned before court in his home district of Rukungiri, for the first time since he was arrested Thursday last week over his participation in a prohibited age limit rally.
Besigye, together with FDC publicity secretary Ingrid Turinawe, party presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat and Rukungiri district councillor Innocent Tashobya appeared before the Rukungiri Chief Magistrates Court amid tight security.
Following the violent rally in Rukungiri town last week in which at least two persons were shot dead and several injured, Police had slapped murder charges on Dr Besigye and other Opposition officials.
The trio were arrested in Rukungiri district, driven to Nagalama Police Station, where they were detained for beyond the mandatory 48 hours.
Yesterday, the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and lawyer David Mpanga filed a case at Nakifuma Magistrate’s Court seeking the unconditional release of Dr Kizza Besigye and his co-accused.
