A total of 15 people have been confirmed dead while eight others are critically injured in another car accident along Kampala-Masaka road.

The 9pm accident occurred at Lubanda trading centre near River Katonga Bridge when a Fuso truck, UAG 970P, failed to brake and rammed into a Coaster bus T540DLC that was heading to Tanzania.

Most of the victims are Tanzanians who had come to attend a party at City Parents School and were travelling back home.

According to Philip Mukasa, the Katonga Region Police spokesperson, those who died were travelling in the Coaster bus.

But some eye-witnesses said the Fuso’s tyres burst and it rammed into the Coaster bus. Those who are critically injured were crushed to Nkozi Hospital for treatment.

According to Police reports, over 200 people have died in separate accidents on the Masaka-Kampala highway. The endless accidents prompted government to launch an operation code-named Fika Salama, Swahili word meaning Arrive Safely.

This zero-tolerance to traffic violations on the roads helped reduce road accidents and led to the arrest of many reckless drivers, especially those who drink and drive were arrested.
