Freedom radio based in Kabale district is being investigated by the Uganda communications body over hosting former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.

The radio stations recently hosted the FDC strong man on a night talkshow early this month.

Dr Besigye who was in South Western Uganda to counter President Yoweri Museveni’s message on land matters was initially set to appear on Voice of Kigezi that day but was blocked by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Darius Naninda, at the last minute. He decided to go to Freedom FM where he was hosted from 09:30pm -11:00pm on September 9.

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) claims that during the show, they received a number of complaints that the opposition politician utilized the opportunity to incite Kabale residents.

UCC executive director Eng Godfrey Mutabazi, in a letter dated September 19, 2017 addressed to the Managing Director Freedom Radio, Justus Orishaba Bagamuhunda, directed him to submit recordings of the entire show.

He added that commission had commenced investigations into the matter, and that the recordings must be submitted by close of business on Friday yesterday.
