Joel Kalani Omusoguti asked for Shs5m from his father as ransom.

TORORO–In what has come as a shock to many Joel Kalani Omusoguti a resident of Apamori village, Mella sub-county in Tororo district tried to abduct himself with the deceitful aim of asking for ransom from his family members.

Omusoguti, 33,currently under police detention for the alleged self abduction, is said to have asked for a ransom of Shs5 million from his father, Kalani Pakrano.

Omusoguti mysteriously disappeared from home last Sunday after his father went for prayers.
Upon returning home, Mzee Kalani could not trace the whereabouts of his son which prompted him to contact the son’s friend, a one Frederick Timo who also had no clue of the whereabouts of his friend.

This compelled them to try and reach out to Omusoguti who later told them that he had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers wanted Shs5 million to set him free. His father reported the matter to police and investigations commenced.

According to Sowali Kamulya, the Bukedi Region police spokesman, police set out to track down the abductors but to their surprise, Omusoguti was on Wednesday found demanding for ransom while locked in one of the rooms he was renting.

Kamulya said Omusoguti will be charged with trying to abduct himself. By Thursday morning, Omusoguti was still being detained at Tororo Central Police Station.
