GULU–Gulu district woman councillor representing Pece Division (Gulu Municipality) Amony Francesca was on Monday released on a cash bail of UGX500 000.

Amony is the chairperson of the Democratic Party National Youth League.

Amony allegedly burnt her two maids with a hot flat iron for reportedly stealing UGX60 000 from her house. She appeared before Gulu Magistrate’s Court and was charged with two counts of aggravated torture.

Chief Magistrate Deo Sejjemba while granting bail to the suspect, reasoned that it would be injustice to imprison Amony with her baby and asked her to produce her sureties, who paid cash of UGX500,000 each and a non cash of UGX1.2m each.

Oruu Martin 38, the LCII chairman of Agwee and Laker Moses, 26, both members of the Democratic Party stood as Amony’s sureties.

Court heard that Amony on 28, 2017 while in her home in Ariaga East Sub Ward in Laroo division, Gulu Municipality burnt two maids with hot flat iron for allegedly stealing UGX600,000.

The victims sustained burn marks on their forehead and arms. Amony admitted burning the victims; Acen Akello, 13, and Flavia Anena, 17. Amony in her submission said she is not aware that a flat iron is a deadly weapon
Amony will reappear in court on August 29, 2017 for the hearing of the case.
