ADJUMANI, Uganda – Inspired by its recent recognition as one of Uganda’s top-performing health facilities, Adjumani Hospital has unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at eliminating maternal mortality. The hospital, ranked third among 63 government general hospitals by the Ministry of Health, has launched a comprehensive program to enhance maternal healthcare services.
During a donation handover event, Stanbic Bank contributed maternal health supplies worth UGX 18 million to support Adjumani Hospital’s efforts. The donation included vital equipment such as an oxygen concentrator, patient transportation stretcher, pulse oximeter, and patient beds.
Damoni Kitabire, Stanbic Bank Uganda Board Chairperson, emphasized the importance of giving back to communities during the bank’s L.O.V.E month. “This initiative is not just about providing equipment; it’s about ensuring mothers and children have access to quality healthcare, vital for their well-being and future.”
Adjumani Hospital serves a diverse population, including over 250,000 refugees from South Sudan. The hospital has significantly reduced maternal mortality cases from 12 to 4 annually and aims to achieve zero maternal deaths with the support of partners like Stanbic Bank.
The hospital’s senior administrator, Michael Ojja, credited the recent ranking for motivating staff and management to strive for excellence. “Making it to the top three inspires us to serve locals and the refugee community in Adjumani and neighboring districts.”
Dominic Drametu, Adjumani District Health Officer, praised Stanbic Bank’s philanthropic efforts. “We’re grateful for choosing our district. We pledge to ensure every mother receives the highest standard of care, with the goal of eliminating maternal mortality entirely.”
Sam Mowgeza, Executive Director of Stanbic Bank Uganda, reiterated the bank’s commitment to community empowerment. “We recognize that economic development is not possible in communities where people are not healthy. Our initiatives, such as Stanbic4Her and the Stanbic National Schools Championship, drive inclusive socio-economic transformation.”
The Stanbic October L.O.V.E month campaign 2024 has also supported other health facilities countrywide, including Gem Foundation, Kawala Health Center, and Katakwi General Hospital.
