WAKISO – The State House Health Monitoring Unit on Wednesday, August 7 stormed Kiira and Kyaliwajala in Wakiso District, in a concerted crackdown on illegal drug dealers.

The regulators set out in a stealthy specialized operation targeting drug shops and health facilities that operate illegally and which fall short of the minimum, professional and medical standards, several shops were consequently closed and drugs confiscated.

The team visited eight of the health facilities and closed down three for lack of proper operational licenses, employing non-qualified nurses and selling medicines that are not stipulated by the National Drugs Authority in their licenses.

The affected drug shops include; Ronah Drug Shop in Kyaliwajala, Morben Drug Shop and Mummy’s Drug Shop.

The two drug shops that survived though with serious cautions and warnings from both Sister Florence Awati and Sister Grace Edyegu include; Hope Drug Shop in Kireka and Mukama Drug Shop in Kira.

The other three were found very compliant and the two Sisters thanked them for obeying and adhering to the strict medical and professional standards and lauded them for following the NDA regulations.

The team says the exercise constitutes part of the mandated routine operations that the unit undertakes to ensure that the lives of people are safeguarded and protected from unscrupulous health workers thus raising the bar in health service delivery.
