KAMPALA – Kampala City Lord Mayor hopeful, singer Joseph Mayanja alias Chameleone has been inspired to run to the studio to release a brand new song, just after he tested the baptism of Uganda’s political heat, tear gas.
Police used teargas on Monday to disperse supporters of mayoral aspirant Joseph Mayanja who had gathered in crowds to witness the opening of his campaign offices and command center in Kampala on Balintuma road.
Moments later, the singer dashed to the studio and released a song dubbed Koona. In the song, he sings about Bobi Wine’s ambitions as well as his Lord Mayor race.
“For what you did today, I am picking my best tools that have brought me 20 years of time. You got the tear Gas. We got the hope of the people!! PERIOD!” the singer vowed before hitting the studio.
In the song, the self-proclaimed Mr Solutions points out that Kyadondo East legislator and NUP Party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu is going to assume the biggest office in Uganda with support from East, West, South North and Central taking over Museveni as he (Chameleone) will be taking over Kampala
Mayanja claims he was unhappy with the Monday scuffle as police used tear gas to disperse his supporters that had only come to witness him unveiling his new political office.
The singer had called for the gathering where he would launch his own election campaign team at around midday, but this was interrupted after police failed to get a positive response from the crowd following a plea to disperse peacefully.
Mayanja later claimed he was injured in the process, citing pain in the left leg.
“I am receiving treatment. My left leg has been injured,” Mayanja said.
Mayanja wondered the crime he had committed that propelled police to come full force on him as he tried launching his offices.
“Our office launch has been interrupted. So we planned to also launch my task force that will hand in hand work with me to the coming Lord Mayor elections. Question is what is our crime?” he asked in a tweet on his twitter handle.
Last year, the iconic singer announced that he would be trailing the political footsteps of fellow musician Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine who joined national politics after his successful win of the Kyaddondo East parliamentary seat.
The Baliwa hit maker who was formerly a darling to the incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s National Resistance Movement party having sang for him the 2016 campaign theme song dubbed Tubonga Naawe announced that he had officially defected to the Democratic Party.
DP President Norbert Mao welcomed and declared him a game changer who was to even hold the party flag for the Lord mayoral seat.
Chameleone again turned tables and defected to Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform and is apparently lobbying for their endorsement to take on FDC strongman Erias Lukwago for the City’s Mayoral seat.
