Kigezi’s Kankwanzi crowned Miss Tourism

KAMPALA– Kankwazi Margarette a 22-year-old student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Tourism has crowned Uganda’s Miss Tourism on Friday.

Hailing from Kigezi region, Kankwanzi beat 12 contestants in the finals to scoop the Miss Tourism 2018/2019 title at Kampala Serena Hotel.

She beat Ayen Emily and Lebu Laura the first and second runners-up respectively.

She won a piece of land in her home region that will be used for promoting tourism,  A trip of her choice to any destination courtesy of Ethiopian Airlines, Travelling to USA and Dubai and also a scholarship at ISBAT University.

“Miss Tourism has grown progressively and I thank the late Hon.  Maama Maria Mutagamba for her dedicated support to make this what it is now and I urge the contestants to sell this product with all their capabilities and knowledge ”  said  Hon Kiwanda Suubi Minister of state Tourism and antiquities.

“I congratulate the contestants for being formidable tourism ambassadors and advise to work with the business community and embrace initiatives done to promote tourism through the Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project ( CEDP) which is under the Private sector Foundation Uganda,” said Dr. Gudula Basaza the Guest of honor and Vice-chairperson PSFU.

“As the National Forest Authority we pledge full support to miss Tourism Uganda and we are available any time we are called upon and have giving out  10 differences tree species to everyone here so that we have the greenback,” Said  Mr.Obong Tom Executive Director NFA.

“For all the contestants from the various regions make an effort to know what other regions besides yours have to enable you have vast knowledge about the great opportunities Uganda has to offer to the international world,”  said  Aisha Nagudi Brand manager Miss Tourism.

Margarette will be representing Uganda in Malaysia in the Miss Tourism World campaigns.

This year’s Edition was run under the theme “Let the pearl Shine “.
