KAMPALA – Uganda Musician Association (UMA) President Wycliff Tugume alias Ykee Benda and fellow singers Emmanuel Matovu Mungi also known as Mun G and Naava Grey have landed a mega mentorship deal from Uganda Waragi under their A Ka Dope Show sponsorship.
A Ka Dope is a multi-art show that launched an online talent search competition last month where 12 underground acts will perform alongside established artistes and stand a chance to win a fully-fledged recording deal.
The competition dubbed the A Ka Dope Stars will run from September to December, 2020.
The trio will feature on the four episodes of the A ka Dope star talent search and each will headline an episode and their role will be supporting the growth and development of the upcoming performers.
Mr Agaba Tumusiime, the Brand Manager for Uganda Waragi the sponsor of the show that whereas Ykee Benda has fueled the growth of a new age of music with his dynamic vocals and eccentric production, Mun G’s blending urban production styles with soulful lyrics makes puts him among the fore fathers of the hip-hop scene in Uganda.
“Uganda Waragi is all about encouraging expression of your vibrant Ugandan Spirit, and there’s no better platform for that than A Ka Dope. We continue to stand proudly as a partner, supporting their goal of grooming local talent for the betterment of the entertainment industry in Uganda,” he explained.
Tumusiime also hailed “Omuloge” song bird’s incredible vocals as one that qualifies her as a competent music mentor

Participants in the A Ka Dope competition recorded and uploaded a 40-second video of themselves singing or rapping on their social media pages and encouraged their fans to repost, share and comment.
Out of the submissions, the 12 best acts shall be shortlisted as semi-finalists and perform live with the A Ka Dope Band to compete for the grand prize of shs2 million cash and a recording deal with 101 Music.
