KAMPALA – The Royal Ascot Goat Races was back in town this weekend as Sheena Ruparelia – daughter to business mogul, Sudhir Ruparelia – put her best foot forward, organizing a breathtaking event.
In making the comeback, Kampala’s ultimate social gathering proved it can reclaim its top spot on the social scene on a rainy Saturday afternoon, that got brighter as the evening set in.
The real fun was in the hospitality tents and the goat owners’ tent that was hosted by the Ruparelia family was the place to be. They went all out with an endless flow of food and all tribes of drinks on the house served by Speke Group of Hotels. With glamour and pomp, the tent attracted the A-listers, city’s socialites and other party animals as they drowned drinks by the shores of Lake Victoria.
Kampala Casino in partnership with Johnnie Walker had the exclusive tent where Kampala’s high and mighty rubbed shoulders. But Johnnie Walker didn’t forget their growing clientele of mostly millennial yuppies and had another tent aptly called Malembe.
There were other fun-filled activities such as the Silent Disco, Chill-Out Lounges – for revellers to mingle, and so much more.
The night ended on a high thanks to performances from Bebe Cool and Fik Fameica that left the crowds wildly excited before an elaborate fireworks display capped it all.
According to Ms Naiya Ruparelia, one of the lead organisers, proceeds from this edition will go to charity and in particular to the Toto’s Tag Rugby and Outreach Program to enable children to learn the sport.
The comeback 2018 Royal Ascot Goat Race has attracted numerous partners including Tusker Malt – a Uganda Breweries Ltd product – as the main sponsor, alongside others – Silk Events, Sanyu FM and most notably, Kampala Executive Aviation.
