Kampala, Uganda — Ugandan gas dealers have called on authorities to regulate the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sector, citing concerns over illegal refilling of cylinders.
Olivier Gatera, Country Manager of RUBiS Energy Uganda, emphasized the need for regulation, stating that illegal refilling is a significant challenge facing the industry.
“We request the authorities to regulate the LPG market to eliminate these illegal practices,” Gatera said during the launch of RUBiS Gas, a new brand of cooking gas that meets international standards.
The launch is part of the company’s efforts to expand its presence in the Ugandan market and provide high-quality products to its customers, Gatera explained.
Customer demand drove the decision to launch RUBiS Gas, according to Gatera. “Our customers have shown trust in the RUBiS brand since we launched in 2021, so we had to match our gas with the brand that is most appreciated in the market.”
Gatera also addressed concerns from customers who have K Gas, a brand that RUBiS Energy Uganda previously marketed. He assured customers that K Gas will still be available in the market, but RUBiS stations will only be marketing RUBiS Gas.
