KAMPALA – The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has successfully organized its first-ever Data Governance Forum, a groundbreaking online event that brought together industry experts and professionals to explore the intricacies of data governance and risk management in the banking and financial services sector.
The forum, held at a registration fee of UGX 300,000, aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of data governance in organizational settings, focusing on regulatory requirements and strategies to mitigate data-related risks.
UIBFS CEO, Mrs. Masadde Goretti, emphasized the significance of data governance in the banking and finance sector. “In today’s data-driven world, accurate and secure data handling is crucial for competitive advantage, trust, and compliance. Our mandate is to promote professionalism and continuous learning, and forums like this enable us to achieve that goal.”
Keynote speaker Ms. Milly Nalukwago Insingoma, Director of Statistics at Bank of Uganda, delivered an insightful address on “The Importance of Data Governance and Data Quality in Gaining a Competitive Advantage.” She stressed the need for professionals in the banking and financial sector to be well-equipped with knowledge about data quality and governance to stay ahead of the curve.

- Ms. Solomy N. Luyombo, General Manager Human Resource at Centenary Bank, discussed “The Role of Leadership and Employee Engagement in Creating a Successful Organization Data Governance and Data Quality Culture.”

Ms. Edna Kasozi, Manager Licensing and Legal Affairs at the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO), addressed “Navigating the Complex Landscape of Data Privacy Regulations: Best Practices for Ensuring Compliance and Avoiding Penalties.”

Mr. Elly Beingana, Manager MI Automation & Analytics at Stanbic Bank, shared insights on “Data Governance Implementation: Developing a Data Governance Strategy, Building a Data Governance Team, and Creating Data Governance Policies.”

Mr. Mabira Conrad William, Cyber Security Researcher and Private Consultant, provided a practical perspective on “Cyber Security in the Financial Services Industry.”
