KAMPALA– The ministry of ICT and National Guidance is set to award 60 innovators from across the country with startup capital after successfully pitching their innovations to the expert selection committee of the National ICT Initiatives Support program (NIISP) under phase 2.

The awarding ceremony will be graced by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda & will be hosted by the minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.

According to the ministry, NIISP was created to tackle ICT bottlenecks by creating a digital ecosystem through promoting the deployment of apps to create an open ecosystem in Uganda that shall enable the government, companies & individuals to innovate & reach new markets.

“NIISP_ICT primarily aims at facilitating growth and development of the software applications and innovations industry,” tweeted the ministry.

In addition, NIISP was created to facilitate the creation of an ICT Innovation ecosystem and marketplace for Ugandan innovative digital products.

Hon Tumwebaze says the priority is given to those innovating solutions for the local market to develop their products to maturity.

We will also be joined by the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Vincent Bagiire among other guests.

Last year, only 12 innovators were awarded and the number has in this year raised to 60.
