Pearl Of Africa Hotel to create 12,000 jobs for Ugandans – Manager

KAMPALA–The Pearl of Africa Hotel also known as AYA Hotel has promised to create 12,000 jobs for Ugandans.

This was revealed Sunday night as the Hotel officially opened doors to the public.

Speaking at the glamorous ceremony, the Hotel’s Managing Director, Martin Carberry, said the hotel was here to develop the Ugandan community.

“The Pearl of Africa Hotel is set to become one of the leading five-star hotels in Uganda. This elite multi-million-dollar product will be trendsetting, offering world-class hospitality to international and regional travellers,” he said.

In addition to that, he said the hotel will create 2,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs.

“We are here to be part of the Ugandan community. We will do all we can to develop the community whether be it through funding towards the healthcare or education but we will do all we can…..” he further said.

The Pearl of Africa Hotel, an iconic landmark situated on one of Kampala’s original hills officially opened at a glittering event attended by some of the VIPs in the country including the former chairman of electoral commission, Eng Badru Kiggundu and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem.

Originally set to be opened by President Yoweri Museveni, he never made it. He was instead represented by Oryem.

In his speech, Oryem advised investors to ignore what they watch on news and read in papers. “Those are just small things. I want to assure investors that no one can destabilise the security of Uganda. I urge them to come and invest in Uganda,” he said.

The Pearl of Africa Hotel is part of the Sovereign Hotels found in South Africa, Zimbabwe among other African countries.

The prestigious 20 storey five-star hotel offers luxury accommodation. It boasts of 253 rooms and 42 suites with panoramic views of the city from its elevated site.

“We offer a diverse range of hospitality conference facilities and services to cater for guests from all sectors, whether they be the diplomatic corps, from the banking or corporate sector, NGO’s or the leisure market,” said Mike Jamieson, Executive General Manager.
