KAMPALA–Emirates Uganda has announced the appointment of new country manager Puneet Kohli, who replaces Mohammad Al Attar.
Al Attar has been the head of the Emirates airline business in the country for just over seven months.
It was not immediately clear why he was replaced as Emirates did not give any reasons thereof. However, sources say the airline is looking to bigger targets that they believe Kohli can pursue and achieve better.
Kohli, who was previously the airline’s sales manager in Qatar, took up his appointment earlier this month in Kampala.
The new manager will be responsible for Emirates’ overall business in Uganda, overseeing sales and service functions for the airline’s commercial, customer and cargo operations.
He reports directly to Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ senior vice president for commercial operations Africa.
Kohli has been with Emirates for almost 17 years, during which time he worked in various sales roles in Doha before becoming sales manager for Qatar in 2006.
“I’m very excited to be leading Emirates’ operations in Uganda and look forward to working with our local team of dedicated and talented staff, as well as our trade partners, to ensure Emirates’ continued growth and success in the market,” he said.
Commenting on Kohli’s appointment, Abbas said, “As a graduate of our Executive Leadership Development Programme and part of our core sales team, Puneet’s diverse experience will bring different perspectives and opportunities to our market in Uganda. We wish him every success in his new role.”
Attar had taken over on January 1, 2017.
