GULU – A man identified as Johnson Tumugisha, 29, was been arrested on Thursday, August 29, by police in Gulu on allegation that he defiled a 6-year-old girl in Bardege division.
The incident occured on Monday, August 26, but was reported on Wednesday at Gulu Central Police Station.
According to Patrick Okello, Bardege Division Council Speaker revealed that Tumugisha was renting a house in the victim’s neighborhood and he had since become a friend to the victim’s family.
“Johnson was a friend to that family and these 3 children were too used to him because many times he would buy for them freebies like sweets, juice, and other snacks,” He said.
Adding that; “But on Monday when Johnson went to play football at a nearby playground, the 3 kids including the victim accompanied him and he later abandoned the game and returned home with them. He entered with the victim inside his house while leaving the rest to play outside. He started playing loud music. But shortly after the child came out, neighbors became concerned because she was struggling to walk and she was also bleeding from her genital area. The next day the child could not walk and she was in great pain,” Mr Okello narrated.
However, the issue was delayed to reach police as the victim’s mother was not at home at the time of the incident. However, she didn’t take it seriously after arrival. But after she was notified by her neighbours the following day, the victim’s mother only got to find out while bathing her, she dicovered that her daughter’s private part had been seriously raptured.
The case was then reported to the LC1 of the area and was forwarded to Gulu Central Police Station hence leading to the culprit’s eventual arrest.
The acting police spokesman for Aswa river region, Mr Victor Nahabwe, the deputy RPC confirmed the incident on Friday 30, to our reporter.
He told PML Daily that the suspect is in custody at the Gulu police cell and a preferred charge of aggravated defiled under CRB 1169/2019 has been opened against him.
Mr Nahabwe says the victim has been admitted at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor for treatment as investigations continue.
