BREAKING: Pope Francis names new Bishop for Masaka Diocese

MASAKA – Pope Francis has Tuesday, April 16, named Rev. Msgr. Severus Jjumba, currently serving as Vicar General for Masaka Diocese, as the new Bishop for the same.

Rev. Msgr. Jjumba has replaced his Lordship Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, whose resignation was accepted by the Holy Father.

The development is contained in a statement dated Tuesday, April 16, 2019, by Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda.

“I have the honor and joy to inform you that the Holy Father, Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Msgr. Serverus Jjumba, as the new Bishop of Masaka, with accepting the resignation of his Lordship Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, upon having reached the age limit,” Archbishop Bianco wrote.

He noted that Bishop Kaggwa will remain as the apostolic administrator of Masaka diocese until the day of the canonical possession by the new Bishop.

Rev. Msgr. Serverus Jjumba was born on July 2, 1962, in Katinnyondo – Kyanamukaala  Masak and was ordained a priest on June 20, 1992.

In 2002, He was appointed a treasurer of Masaka diocese and in July 2014 Vicar General to the same.
