KAMPALA – Hundreds of Brigade members from various companies in Namirembe Diocese have stormed St. Stephens Church of Uganda-Luzira Archdeaconry to celebrate 136 years since this great youth organization was founded in the world by Sir. William Alexander Smith in 1883.
According to the diocese, the day gives them a unique opportunity to thank God for the founder of Brigade and all its great leaders who have served wholeheartedly.
“Brigade has transformed millions of lives of young people worldwide,” revealed the diocese.
The colourful event attracted over 350 members including some retired ones who showed up smartly dressed in their uniforms started with a powerful charity walk on the streets of Kampala led by different brigade brass bands.
The Church service filled with Brigade colours was next on the agenda. This started with the introduction of colours in a highly organised manner. Christians appreciated this by applause of handclap. The Brigade praise and worship team then bossed the service with an outstanding performance that left many wanting more.
Rev. Muyinda of Bweyogerere Parish who also represented the Archdeacon prayed for brothers and sisters who went to be with the Lord. A moment of silence was observed.
The Diocesan Youth Secretary Mr. Lule Tefeero said “On behalf of the Youth Community of Namirembe, we humbly honor these incredible patriots of Brigade and servants of God and firmly renew our bidding commitment to uphold the principles and values of Brigade for which they laid down their lives. This year particularly we salute and remember in prayer our own Semanda Geofrey of 1st Mengo Co. whom we lost to cancer and went to be with the Lord. May their souls continue to rest in perfect peace”
The preacher of the day was officer Stephen Kasozi from Nateete also National Programs Coordinator of Brigade in Uganda who delivered a very powerful sermon that challenged many members to turn to Christ.
Members were also provided with free health services which included HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, as well as free blood pressure checkup. The event was also graced by the Secretary-General of Brigade in Uganda Mr. Dantes Kanshangire.
