MBARARA – A motorcyclist has been knocked dead by a trailer at Koranorya Trading Centre, along Mbarara- Masaka road.

Mr. Samson Kasasira, the Police Spokesman for Rwizi Region, confirmed the accident.

Mr. Kasasira said that the trailer registered KBD 994Q/ZC 5409, which was heading to Kampala from Mbarara rams into the motorcyclist carrying milk cans.

Mr. Kasasira said the rider died on the spot and the traffic Police had taken the body to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary.

“We suspect that the cause of the accident was reckless riding on the side of the motorcyclist, who crossed from his lane to join where the trailer was coming from,” Kasasira said.

He identified the driver of the trailer as Peter Viery Simiyu, 34, a Kenyan who is in Police custody to help in the investigations.

He said the deceased is yet to be identified but that the wreckage had been towed to Mbarara Police Main Station park yard.

“We are still waiting for relatives to identify the deceased so that we hand over the body,” added Kasasira.
