Pregnant woman drowns in valley dam

KAZO – A 30-year -old pregnant woman in Kazo district has died after drowning in a valley dam.

The deceased was only identified as Geniva, a Rwandan national. The deceased was a wife to Moses Kagariza, a resident of Kyengando, Engari sub-country in Kazo district.

According to Police, the body was discovered by the husband who was hunting for her after she took long to return home.

According to Kahariza, the deceased fell in the dam at the farm on Wednesday.

“She was fetching water to feed the cattle at around 2 pm when she became unconscious and drowned in the water”, Mr. Kahariza narrated.

He added that his wife was about six months pregnant and was epileptic.

The DPC Kazo, ASP Kinene visited the scene and retrieved the body to Kazo mortuary for postmortem.

Mr. Kinene added that police also retrieved a plastic basin from the dam that the deceased was probably using to fetch water.

“Investigations surrounding the circumstances in which Geniva drowned are still ongoing,” he added.
