KAMPALA– The family of Abdul Kateregga who was shot on allegations of killing the former Buyende District Commander Muhammad Kirumira have petitioned court seeking for an order to hold the Minister of Internal Affairs General Jeje Odong in contempt of  court.

Through their lawyers of Rwakafuzi and Co. Advocates, the brother to the late Kateregga claims that Gen Odong defied a court order that legally required him to institute an investigation committee to inquire into the death of the late Kateregga.

Ms Stellah Nakamya an advocate from Rwakafuzi and  Co. Advocates in the court documents supporting the claim says that on February 8, 2019, Justice Andrew Basaija ordered the minister to appoint aninvestigation committee to find out into the death of Kateregga within three months from the date of receiving of the order.

She states that on March 13, 2019 she served Gen Odong with the court order however up to date, three months have already lapsed but he has not appointed investigation committee into the death of Kateregga.

According to the court documents, Ms Nakamya says that it is only fair and just that court finds that the minister has committed contempt of court, unfit to hold the public office of the Minister of Internal Affairs or be committed to Civil Prison for contempt of court until he complies with the court order and costs of this application be paid by him.

The family wants the Minister to pay UGX 50m as general damages and costs of the application.

The late Kateregga formerly a resident of Luyinja LC1 Namugoona Rubaga Division was shot dead by security operatives on September 29 who stated that he was running away from being arrested.
