KAMPALA – The Drone Media Journalist, Pidson Kareire, who was arrested on Wednesday from his office, will appear in Makindye Court before Justice Okumu.

Mr. Kareire is accused of alleged defamation by a local labour export company Middle East Consultants, for publishing a story on his online news media about how many prospective workers were conned of their money and hardly given the intended jobs.

Human Rights Network for Journalist – Uganda (HRNJ-U) and Lawyer Daniel Walyemera are defending Mr. Pidson in what is perceived to be tramped up charges by the labour export company.

Relatedly, at 12pm, before High Court Lady Justice Lydia Mugambe, the case against UCC directives to sack news managers, producers and program managers of 13 media houses will be coming up at Twed Towers near Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

HRNJ-UGANDA, UJA and other media rights activists are challenging the UCC directives and ultimate powers to issue such directives in the manner it’s being done.
