KAMPALA – Ugandan blogger Ashiraf Kato alias Ashburg Kato who went missing on May 2, 2019, has revealed that he was ambushed and kidnapped by the gunmen who introduced themselves as officers.
Speaking on his Ghetto TV, Mr. Kato said he was on his way to the Buganda road court to witness the hearing of cases against the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine.
“I woke up early in the morning and hired a boda to court. As we had gone past Freedom city, unknown men in a car stopped us, told me they are officers and I am under arrest,” said Mr. Kato.
Mr. Kato added that “In the car, there were other men who handcuffed me and covered my face and drove me off to the unknown place.”
He said all of his belongings which included phone, money, wallet and ID were confiscated before he was thrown in a certain room.
He said “After a long time, a certain man came inside, slapped me first. He asked me to produce car tyres and T-shirts or else they do rough things on me, however, I had no knowledge on what he was asking me.”
Police on Monday 6, denied having knowledge on Kato’s whereabouts.
Speaking at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said the force has no idea about Katto’s alleged disappearance and disregarded the rumours that he is under Police custody.
He, however, said, “Police is going to start investigations [into the alleged] kidnapped and where he could be.”
Mr. Kato revealed that he was first summoned by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) week ago in regard to his Ghetto TV an online channel which UCC accuses of inciting violence by broadcasting live proceedings every time Bobi Wine encounters the Police.
He said on Wednesday, May 8, he was again driven, reached in a certain place, unchained him and thrown off the car.
