MUKONO – The Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono Vice-Chancellor, Dr. John Senyonyi has announced that the University has promoted Dr. Monica Balya Chibita to the rank of full professor.

The promotion was approved by the University Council on Thursday, May 23.

“I congratulate Prof. Chibita for this much-deserved achievement,” reads the statement adding that, “It will be remembered that Prof. Chibita came to UCU in 2012 from Makerere University at the rank of Associate Professor.”

“We must note that Prof. Chibita is only the second homegrown full Professor that the University Council has promoted during the institution’s 22 years of existence,” Dr. Ssenyonyi.

Prof. Chibita is the head of the Faculty of Journalism, Media and Communication (FJMC) at the Mukono-based University.

“She has not only shown to be a consummate academic but very importantly a leader who grows her team. During her time at UCU, she has worked to train five PhDs in a partnership with two institutions in Norway and South Africa,” he added.

Dr. Senyonyi also commended Prof. Chibita for presiding over the phenomenal growth of her section at the University while at the same time growing her own academic achievements.

“It is a laudable accomplishment when a Dean holding her heavy administrative duties simultaneously researches and publishes to grow academically,” he said.

Dr. Senyonyi added: “We celebrate her achievement with glowing pride. Thank you Prof. Monica Chibita. May God bless you.”

Reacting to the good news of her promotion, Prof. Chibita has Saturday, May 25 told PML Daily that it has placed higher expectations on her to demonstrate leadership in ensuring the soundness of the curriculum and quality of teaching at the University.
