KAMPALA – Makerere University has launched the 2019, 3rd edition of the annual MakRun at the University campus in Kampala.
The third Edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run 2019 is slated for Sunday, 15 September 2019.
MakRun 2019 is part of Makerere University’s efforts to continuously engage with its stakeholders and appeal to their philanthropic nature.
As with the previous editions, all proceeds from MakRun 2019 will go towards the construction of the Makerere Students’ Centre; a one stop information centre with entertainment, recreational and commercial facilities among other amenities.
Flag off will be preceded by a warm up and aerobics session at the Freedom Square starting at 6:00am on D-day.
Participants will be flagged off at the university by yet to be disclosed guest of honour for the 5km and 15km routes.
The run aims at raising funds towards the construction of a 15billion students centre, attracts corporate companies and notable members of the public who participates in the 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer races.
The previous editions, thousands of students, staff, alumni, and well-wishers of Makerere braved the rains for fundraising events.
Due to inadequate financing of the University by government, the university council in 2014 formed the Makerere University Holdings Company Limited and the Makerere University Endowment Fund to enhance the financial resource base of the university.
Dr. Martin Aliker, the Chairperson MakEF, last year said they intend to open the center during the centenary cerebration of the university in 2022.
The one stop student center will be comprised of state of the art Auditorium with 2000 seating capacity and Hall of Fame, Conference facilities, Cafeterias, Internet Kiosks, Memorabilia Shop/Bookshop; Recreational Sports Arena, Entertainment and Social Areas.
