KABALE – The government of Uganda has issued directives that there will be no new registration of sports bettings campanies in Uganda and even those that are already in operation will not have their licenses renewed when they expire.
This was revealed by the State Finance Minister for planning, David Bahati, while he was speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony for Bishop George Bagamuhunda in Kabale on Sunday 20.
“We have received a directive from His Excellency the president that we should not license news sports betting companies, gaming and gambling companies and that we don’t renew the existing ones when they expire” He revealed
The minister says the President’s move to end sports betting came after him receiving alot of complaints from church leaders that gambling and betting have become addictive to the youth who spend most of their time in such useless games.
Mr Bahati said that its time for church leaders to rejoice and praise God because their answers have been answered.
Two years back, the government passed strict laws to regulate betting like betting time, the age at which one is allowed to bet, which is 25 years.
