KAMPALA – Balaam Barugahara, the renowned city events promoter has allegedly registered ‘People Power’ as non-governmental organisation [NGO] a slogan that is commonly used by Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi wine.
According to Bukedde newspaper, Balaam was quoted saying he will use this new NGO to support elderly people and has the patent rights barring anyone from using the word/slogan for political purposes.
Balaam allegedly warned those who plan to use the word ‘People Power’ for political motives to avoid it or else be sued for damaging the reputation of his Organisation.
However, according to Marcus Kwikiriza, the host of morning zoo on nxt radio, Balaam denied having registered the NGO although he says it was registered but by not him.
The People Power slogan was started by MP Kyagulanyi during his campaigns in the Kyadondo East by-elections.
While addressing the press in September 2018 at his home in Magere Wakiso district, Bobi Wine said People Power is not Bobi Wine but an idea.
“It is not about me or anyone else. People Power is not a political organization- at least not now. People Power is an idea! It is the idea that all power belongs to the people as guaranteed by Article 1 of our Constitution.”he said.
He further added that what they were doing was reminding the citizens that all power belongs to them, and not to the President, any soldier or minister.
