KIBOGA – SBI Uganda, the Israeli Embassy in Uganda and Brit’Olam together with the community in Kiboga district have celebrated the opening of the multi-disciplinary “Diabetic Clinic” at Kiboga Hospital at a weekend function that was officiated by the Minister for Health – Dr. Ruth Jane Aceng.

During the colorful ceremony, minister Aceng hailed SBI Uganda, and the Israel Embassy for continuing the existing partnership with Israel in strengthening the Healthcare systems in the country, with the establishment of a diabetic clinic at Kiboga hospital a big step in strengthening the cooperation.

“The collaboration between Israel and Uganda is not limited to medical supplies but has been extended to capacity building including the ongoing works at the Intensive Care Unit for Mulago National Referral Hospital. The Israeli medical volunteers have been with for a long time and we appreciate the support for the health care system,” Aceng told the Israeli Ambassador to Uganda Mr Noah Gal and the SBI volunteer team at Kiboga hospital at the weekend.

The clinic has been built with the help of construction company SBI Uganda, in partnership  with the Israeli Embassy in Uganda, Brit’Olam together with the Community in Kiboga as part of the construction company’s community corporate social responsibility.

Ambassador Gal said Israel will scale up its services including the ongoing commitment on works at the Mulago National Referral Hospital new intensive care unit as part of the cooperation aimed at boosting health delivery in Uganda.

“We also hope to scale up medicines supplies. Our Medical Volunteer Teams are committed and are available to boost health service delivery. It is unfortunate that diabetes is not only in Uganda but a global challenge which has no borders”, Ambassador Gal said.

According to statistics from the ministry of health, Kiboga Hospital receives a total of 350 diabetic cases every Friday and about 300 diabetic patients are attended to by the outreach teams at the different health units where the services have been extended in Kiboga District.

Dr Peter Isagara the Kiboga Hospital Medical Superintendent  said the hospital used to register at least one death in a very three months for diabetic conditions, but the sad statistic has been eliminated after the SBI Uganda initiative to pen the diabetic unit.
