Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has given a nod to former FDC president and bush war hero Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu’s ongoing countrywide consultations, saying there is nothing wrong with what the latter is doing.

Dr Besigye’s comments follow voices from the FDC party leadership calling for an end to Muntu’s consultations on grounds that the party had not officially been informed about the his activities.

“As long as anyone wants to do what needs to be done to regain our country from dictators, that person is our ally and I have no problem with it,” Besigye said on Tuesday outside Mbarara magistrate’s court.
He was, however, quick to add that the party will decide on the matter.

FDC Women’s League spokesperson Sarah Eperu told journalists on Monday at Najjanankumbi that since the party president Patrick Amuriat is conducting consultations, Muntu ought to have handed over his program for harmonisation and support.

However, in response, Muntu said he is not mandated to request for permission from the party but said he had written to police and had copied in the party.

On his part, Patrick Amuriat said the party is not aware of Muntu’s consultations because they had not been informed officially.

“Since we are not aware, we shall reserve our comments. Since he is one of our members, we shall have a discussion with him to understand exactly what his intentions are,”Amuriat said.

Muntu on Monday began his countrywide consultations on the way forward following last year’s FDC presidential race that threatened to tear the party ahead. He began the consultations in Hoima where he met a section of FDC supporters, independents as well his sympathizers from the ruling National Resistance Movement.
