One of the seven suspects in the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi has Tuesday afternoon been re-arrested at court, minutes after he was released.

Nakawa Magistrate Court this morning released seven suspects who are accused of murdering the former police spokesperson. They each freed on a Shs50m non-cash bail.

Shaban Senfuka was rearrested at the Nakawa junction as he returned home from incarceration.
Police cordoned off the court premised soon after the release of the suspects.

An excited Senfuka had earlier on told journalists at court that he was wrongfully arrested.
“I am free now because God cannot be bribed,” he said, quite oblivious of what was to follow.

But as he left the court premises, he was intercepted by men in plain cloths and forced in a waiting private vehicle before being whisked off to an unknown destination.

Magistrate Sajjabi released the seven suspects on grounds that they were held on remand for over six months. The constitution allows suspects who are detained for six months without charge to be released on bail.

“These people first appeared before this court on 21st of April 2017 and the six months have already elapsed without being committed for trial,” he ruled.

The seven released today are Shanan Senfuka who is back in detention; Hassan Tusiime, Sheikh Musa Brenda, Ibrahim Kisa, Sheikh Majidu Ojegere and Hamiidu Magambo.

Kaweesi was sprayed with over 80 rounds of bullets just a few meters from home in Kulambiro as he left for his workplace.  A total of 22 suspects were arrested in March in connection to the murder but only eight were committed to High Court last week for trial.
