BY PAUL IBANDA

Gen Kale Kayihura has directed a mini-reshuffle of his commanders, withdrawing Rukungiri District Police Commander Richard Emuna.

This follows violent scenes in Rukungiri Town in which at least two people died and several others sustained injuries as police battled opponents of the proposed bill on lifting the presidential age limit.

Emuna tried to use bullets and teargas to block protesters from gathering at Rukungiri Stadium for a consultative rally, a move that turned the town into a deadly battle ground last week.

Several people, including police officers, sustained serious injuries in the showdown that lasted over two hours, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction.

Edson Nasasira, 22, a resident of Burombe in Rujumbura County, lost his life in the battle.
In a memo seen by PML Daily, Kayihura instructed his deputy Okoth Ochola to ensure Emuna reports to Police headquarters for redeployment.

Kayihura replaced Emuna with SP Moses Nanoka. Rukungiri, a once NRM stronghold could be rapidly turning into an opposition fortress.

In the reshuffle, Kayihura has also transferred SP Jackson Mucunguzi from Makerere University as Chief security officer to the Senior Staff and Command College at Bwebajja in Wakiso for a course.
